What are the advantages of using a
monopod? Either when traveling or at home, monopods are the perfect
solution for improving the quality of the pictures you take when a tripod isn’t
available. As with a tripod, a monopod gives you a good solid base for your
digital, photographic or video camera, which allows for clearer, crisper printed
photos and smooth non-jumpy video recordings.
There are many advantages to using a
monopod. They are convenient, compact, and lightweight and since it is a single
leg, set up is quick and easy. When traveling or on vacation, they can easily
fit into a suitcase, briefcase, and larger size camera bags. In a crowded
area where it would be impossible to use a tripod because of the area needed to
spread the legs out, a monopod fits the bill. Use it when recording the
game from the stands at your local high school stadium, or from your seat when
watching your child’s first dance recital.
Be certain to choose the right
model. For shooting images on a horizontal axis a monopod without a head
will work well. They have the camera mounting screw attached directly to
the top of the monopod. For horizontal and vertical picture taking with your
digital or photographic cameras, use a monopod with a three way
panhead. The three way feature allows you to pan left and right, tilt the
head up and down, and to tilt the panhead to a 90 degree vertical
position. This is also the head we recommend when using a video
camcorder.
